Ages

USTA Jr. Team Tennis competitive play allows children aged 12-18 to engage in a fun, healthful sport within a team environment.  USTA Jr. Team Tennis also adapts to your child’s age and play level by offering children aged 10 and under an opportunity to learn by using a new format called QuickStart Tennis. And as they grow older, play levels can increase all the way to a National Championship level.

QuickStart Tennis is an exciting new way  to learn tennis, designed to bring kids onto the court and into the game by utilizing specialized equipment, shorter court dimensions and modified scoring, all tailored to age and size. It is divided into two different levels-- ages 8 and under and ages 10 and under.

18 & Under
Teams are divided by age and play levels falling into one of several age groups: U12, U14, U16 and U18. Play levels are divided among beginner, intermediate and advanced, all of which are offered at the local level.

Each year the USTA crowns a national champion in two age divisions (14 & under and 18 & under) in both the Intermediate and Advanced play divisions.  The National Championships serves as the crown jewel of USTA Jr. Team Tennis as the nation’s top teams compete for the title.  This event showcases the very best elements of tennis: spirited competition, friendship, achievement, sportsmanship and fun.  Playing in a National Championship can be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.  Play is on full size courts using standard net height, racquets and balls.

SECTION 1

About USTA Jr. Team Tennis

USTA Jr. Team Tennis brings kids together in teams to play singles, doubles and mixed doubles against other teams. It promotes social skills and important values by fostering a spirit of cooperation and unity, as well as individual self-growth. Also, it’s a fun environment for kids in which they learn that succeeding is really more about how they play the game – win or lose.

How does it work?
USTA Jr. Team Tennis is designed for kids ages 6-18. They are immediately placed on teams. All you need to start a league are two teams. Matches can be held anywhere from a local park or school to a commercial or private club.  Teams are preferably co-ed but can also be single gender (boys only or girls only).  They are divided by the following age and play levels:

Age Groups: U18, U16, U14, U12, U10 and U8
Play Levels: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced

TennisLink
All players have access to TennisLink, the USTA’s online player registration system.  TennisLink allows registered players to keep track of their records and stats, as well as scout their competition.  Whether on the court or online, USTA Jr. Team Tennis builds a passion for a sport kids will be able to play for life.

Costs
The costs to participate can vary by local market. Minimum fees include costs for the official uniform (new in 2009), USTA membership (if new member), plus nominal shipping and processing fees.  Click here for more information on official uniforms.
