THIRD ANNUAL ASIAN GAMES TEAM TENNIS TOURNAMENT format utilizes no-ad scoring. Players compete in one set of:

  • Men’s Doubles combined 7.0
  • Men’s Doubles combined 8.0
  • Men’s Doubles Open
  • Women’s Doubles 8.0
  • Mixed Doubles Open
    1. For Mixed Doubles, Gender serves to like gender always at game point.
    2. Most GAMES WON determines the winning team. If the leading team wins the final set, the match is over. If the overall score REACHES 5-5 games tied, a NINE-POINT TIE BREAKER is played.

ASIAN GAMES TEAM TENNIS TOURNAMENT REQUIREMENTS:

  • TOURNAMENT entry fee per team is $200. The captain of the team or country coordinator must submit the entry fee prior to match play.
  • A minimum of ten players per country team is necessary to play in every flight match and avoid a match default.
  • There is no limit as to the number of players or alternates that you may field but must keep the 20% rule of non-country affiliate. For example, if the Filipinos have a maximum of 20 players, then 4 representatives maybe of non-Filipino participants and 16 players are Filipino-American. No limit rule affords more participation from your country, allows giving others to cover for replacement due to injury, fatigue, avoiding defaults, and accommodating those individuals with time constraints because of other commitments.

1. GAME SCORING

ASIAN GAMES TEAMTENNIS the scoring is no-ad. This means that the first team to capture four points (15, 30, 40, game or 1, 2, 3, game) wins the game. When the game score is deuce (game point), the receiving team may choose the side in which to receive the serve. In the mixed doubles set, the serve must be made to the same gender at game point.

2. SET SCORING

A match consists of one set of no-ad games.  The first team to reach six games wins the set and match. A nine-point tiebreaker will be played at five games all in any set (see explanation of nine-point tiebreak in #3).

3. MATCH SCORING AND OVERTIME

Teams must submit rosters before play. The winner will still be determined by total number of games won. However, for purposes of determining whether a match will go into overtime,

A. The leading team reaches 6th game wins match.

B. If the overall score reaches 5-5 tied, you automatically begin the nine-point tie-breaker to determine who wins the 6th game.

(EXPLANATION OF NINE-POINT TIEBREAKER)

A nine-point tiebreaker will be played at five games all in any set. The person who is next to serve begins the tiebreaker. Each player serves two points in succession starting from the deuce court. Players change sides after four points. The first team to score five points wins the tiebreaker. If the tiebreaker reaches 4-4, the person who served the 8th point serves the 9th (final) point. The receiver, however, has the choice of sides (except in mixed doubles, where the service must be gender to gender). The winner of the 9th point is the winner of the set. Note: you do not have to win by two points

NOTE: AFTER COMPLETED MATCH, CAPTAIN OR CO-CAPTAIN MUST SUBMIT SCORECARD WITH OPPOSING TEAM CAPTAIN OR CO-CAPTAIN’S INITIAL ON THE SHEET AND HANDED OVER TO TOURNAMENT BOOTH FOR OFFICIALL TALLY. SCORECARD SHEET MUST BE COMPLETE WITH EACH TEAM PLAYER NAMES INCLUDED AND ALL SCORES RECORDED. THIS MUST BE SUBMITTED IMMEDIATELY AND WITHOUT DELAY.

4. SUBSTITUTIONS

A team can substitute a player (same gender) during a set for injury reasons only. Once a player is replaced, he/she cannot return in that set. If a substitution occurs in doubles, the remaining player cannot change the side on which they receive or the service order.

5. WARM-UP TIME

In ASIAN GAMES TEAMTENNIS, All players are allowed a 5-minute warm-up.

6. CHANGING ENDS

Players change ends after every four games. In the 9-point tiebreaker, change ends only after the first four points.

8. COACHING

NO COACHING is allowed throughout the match.

9. DEFAULT RULES

Time: 15 minute player default = set default 6-0

Injury: If a player defaults during a set and cannot be substituted for, the score will be recorded with the games played standing and the opposing team receiving 6 games.

TOTAL TEAM standings will be determined on the basis of the win-loss record of completed matches. If there is a tie in the final standings, the tie will be broken in favor of the team with the most direct wins over the other team or overall games won.

NOTE: USTA RULES AND REGULATIONS APPLY TO THOSE NOT MENTIONED ABOVE.
